Why the 40" Log Claw
You'll feel the difference the second you pick it up. At 6 pounds, the 40" Log Claw is intentionally overbuilt — 1-inch square steel tubing, powder-coated and laser-cut, with the kind of heft that tells you it's not going to flex, bend, or give up on you halfway through a burn. Most log tongs on the market weigh under 3 pounds. They feel like it, too.
This isn't a tool that looks good on the shelf and buckles under a real log. It's built to clamp down on a 14-inch oak round in a full fire and hold it there while you place it exactly where you want it. The dual-claw design and ribbed finger groove handles give you real control — grab, rotate, lift, and adjust without getting any closer to the heat than you need to.
At 40 inches, this is the size most people end up with — long enough for full reach into large backyard fire pits, short enough to actually maneuver one-handed. Need something more compact? The 35" Log Claw fits tighter spaces. Want even more reach? The 45" Log Claw is built for commercial fire pits and large setups. Also called fire pit tongs, a firewood grabber, log grabber, or campfire tongs — the Log Claw replaces all of them with one tool that actually grips.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
The 40" is ideal for large backyard fire pits in the 36–48 inch diameter range, making it our most popular size. It's also the go-to choice for frequent campers and outdoor guides who want extra reach without going up to the full 45" Ultra. If your fire pit is under 36 inches, the 35" Log Claw Standard is the better fit.
-
The 35" is our entry point — great for standard residential fire pits and casual use. The 40" is the sweet spot for large fire pits and serious outdoor use. The 45" Ultra is built for commercial-scale fires, fireplace inserts with deep setbacks, and anyone who wants maximum reach. All three share the same heavy-duty steel construction and laser-cut claws.
-
Because it's intentionally overbuilt. At 6 pounds, the Log Claw is more than double the weight of most log tongs on the market — and you feel the difference the second you pick it up. That's 1-inch square steel tubing versus thin stamped metal. The claws don't flex under load, the handles don't bend, and the tool lasts for years of hard use instead of one season.
-
The 40" Log Claw grabs logs up to 14 inches in diameter. For even larger logs, step up to the 45" Ultra which handles up to 16 inches. The 35" Standard grabs logs up to 12 inches.
-
Yes — completely assembled, no tools required. The Log Claw ships ready to use immediately. Makes an excellent gift for the fire pit enthusiast who already has everything.

Available in Satin Black, Red, and Tropical Lime Green. All colors use the same weather-resistant powder coat finish. Select your color above before adding to cart.
-
The 40" works well for large open fireplaces. For standard indoor fireplaces with smaller openings, the 35" is usually a better fit. Wood stove use depends on the stove opening — measure your firebox opening and compare to the 7.75" claw width.
